did the us bring the amazing young man who came in second at nationals in case a replacement was needed
As I understand it: No alternates could be brought into the bubble. If an alternate was brought to China to stay outside of the bubble there is a 21 day isolation period currently in China. And if a skater skates in the team event then they may not be replaced under any circumstances.

That's too bad... I was pretty sure it was a false positive. I mean, how did he get infected? I hope there are no more positive tests...
In all seriousness, it would be impossible to put 10,000 people on long distance flights and not have some of them walk off the aircrafts with SARS2 virus in their bodies. They will in general then test positive in 3-9 days and become infectious at some point during that time, at which time they may infect others before being caught. Coupled with that the huge service crew (the guy who drives the egg delivery truck amoung thousands) needed to service the bubble and you can see what will happen. I am sure Vince did everything in his power to try and avoid contracting the SARS2 Omicron virus, but no eye wear and no mask is 100 percent effective. I fear he will not be the last, if indeed he is positive.

I hope they allow him to just get on a plane immediately and go home.
I sure dont. Do YOU want to be on that airplane with him if he is indeed positive? Quality quarranteen facilities where each room has its own HVAC system are the ticket till he tests negative and /or is not shedding. Its a bummer but each person in the bubble knew up front what would happen if they are positive.

Vincent is not even a threat for the podium, his absence does not change the possible results at all.
Ah. So it's totally fine for someone who wouldn't challenge the podium to test positive, is that what you're trying to say? So let's just tell all non medal contenders to pack their bags then. We can finish all four disciplines in a few hours, one group per discipline.

Reigning national Silver medalist who scored over 300 points last month is sitting at home. The fact that he was named as an alternate was ridiculous enough, and it's even more infuriating that he won't be allowed to be an alternate and sub in for Zhou now. The sport needs a reform, this system is f*cked up.

Who in their right mind agreed to have the team event before the individual and why is Ilia not allowed to compete today? These illogical rules just cheapen the competition.

The question is how is nobody else testing positive? Zhou skated in a group of five maskless skaters. Per Vincent's words he's been strictly isolated, this means the only people he came in contact with are the Team Event participants. Who else could've spread it to him?

I get a great video for the competition on CCTV5; however, there is a place to click to unmute the sound. When I click I am sent to either a gambling site or a blatant porno site. Anyone know how to get pass that. Thanks.

I realize it’s not the same exactly, but team gymnastics always comes first. But team gymnastics is I think much more competitive and taken more seriously than team figure skating is right now. No one refers to it as some kind of warm up to the main events. That’s not to say the event and the medals aren’t valued, but it’s not given the same importance as other team events imo- yet. Maybe because team fs is only in its 3 rd Olympics? (Relays in swimming and track are highly valued too, off hand. But- again- much more history there.)

I do agree about Ilia being able to sub now. Especially with COVID. That should have been a possibility imo. I think Vincent absolutely deserved his spot on the team though. Jason vs Ilia is more debatable imo.

What's CCTV5?

You can try browser add-ons to disable scripts. NoScript, µBlock... In short, you have two options after installing the add-on:
1) disable all Javascript, then white-list the domains you trust
2) allow Javascript, then try disabling some of the domains listed for the page you're consulting until you find the offending domain

I've only tried this on desktop, but I imagine it must exist on mobile too...

I feel so sorry for Vincent. I have already posted why it was impossible for alternates to be in Beijing "on standby", that is not the US Fed's fault.

Personally, I don't think this is the time or the place to talk about the alternates. The person who was dealt an incredibly bad break is Vincent, and he has all my sympathy right now.

In honor of the coming short, some quads data on the participants. Only international attempts included (apart from 21-22 for Hanyu who has none, so I took the nationals). Totals indicated with the seasons, then which jumps have they tried, how well they have jumped (the percentage of jumps with GOE at 0 or above of the total), what they have done this season and what kind of layout can perhaps be expected. Some exceptional achievements shaded - Chen and Hanyu are really in a class of their own considering types of jumps, how many they have done, and how high their success rate is!

Let's hope they will all skate beyond their wildest dreams!

'One day more
Another day, another destiny'

This is going to keep playing in my head until the men's SP ends. Too bad the BBC coverage is so bad to not be sure of what is going to be live and not.

Mmmm. I thought there would be a day off between the Team Event competitions ending and the individual competitions starting. I knew I should have started into the Team Event today rather than waiting until tomorrow.

Going to be in bed when this starts, so this is a placeholder.

Team Men's SP starts in 4 hours from now.

So what?:palmf:
Even if he wasn’t a threat for the podium he’s still one of the best skaters of this generation, but that’s not the point, the point is that it is devastating to see your dream vanish like this, one day before the competition. It doesn’t change anything if your the number one or number 100 in the ranking
