The 2024 Reykjavik International Games is an annual multi-sport event and will take place Jan 25-28, 2024, in Reykjavík, Iceland, at the Laugardalur Ice Arena. The event will feature the Singles disciplines (Women and Men) for figure skating in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories and will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating, and the relevant ISU Communications.

I might be mistaken but it seems Norway will have no entries this year. This competition is not on the list on the upcoming competitions on the Feds website. There might be some clubs that will send skaters on their own expense, but in that case no official team members of the National teams.

I wonder if the situation with the volcanic eruption in Grindavik affects the international participation. I assume Reykjavik is safe, but the volcanic ashes from the volcano might affect international flights or make people unsecure if there might be cancellations?

I´m really stupid.... Of course there will be no Norwegians this year because it crashes with Norwegian Nationals I did not think about the date...

Nationals was postponed a little this year because of Euros, so usually it doens´t crash with this competition. Originally Nationals had another date but had to get a new one after the location and date of Euros was changed, and I assume the date for this competition was already set then. For the same reason Norwegians will have to do Nordics the weekend after, not ideal situation but there wasn´t a lot of options.

Just found out that there is an Interclub part to the event being held on Friday before the Advanced Novices do their Short Programmes. HEre is the Entries / Results page for it:

At the Cubs and Chicks levels, they're not having separate competitions with separate results for the boys and the girls. There is just one competition with one set of results for each level.

I don't agree with having combined results. Call me cynical, but any time I see combined results, be it in sporting competitions or entertainment awards ceremonies, all I can think is that it has nothing to do with inclusivity, but has everything to do with finances. Combined results means less prizes, which saves the organisers money.

And I think that is dispicable, because it deprives skaters that would be in the Top 3 if the categories were separate not just of a prize and (possibly) some well needed prize money, but it also deprives them of their moment of glory on the podium.

Being able to stand on the podium means everything to a sportsperson. So taking that away is unforgivable.

I have to agree with you @CaroLiza_fan. I mean, combined results at that age can't have anything to do with inclusivity or diversity but must have something to do with finances and costs. Cheap trick and the pun was meant.

I just had a thought. Were the Chicks and Cubs competitions at Icelandic Nationals maybe re-scheduled to be held as part of this event instead?

Because when you look at the Entries / Results page for Nationals, for these two levels the start orders are still there instead of the results, and the Time Schedule PDF links are still there instead of the Protocol links.

In the Cubs competition that is just starting, there is one extra entry compared to Nationals. Was this skater maybe injured in November, and did the organisers maybe decide to postpone these levels so that they would not miss out on competing?

I know there's a lot of "maybes" there, but I'm just thinking about it out loud.
