Ahh, I'm not sure that this qualifies....but I feel like using the soundtrack from "Ghost" is an odd choice...sooo - who could forget linykh & Katsalapov "The Ghost" FD a couple of years back?

- Honestly, I know a lot of people really hate this program....but I don't. It's definitely not a favorite and is certainly an odd choice but I guess I feel like I've seen worse...

That program is A Camp Masterpiece. In the infamous words of Leonard Pinth Garnell, "Monumentally ill-advised!" and I love every tacky godawful moment of it!

LOVE this thread. Thank you all for posting the links.

It's Grand Corps Malade. Sadly nobody understood it besides... Igor Spillband ! Here is what Karine Arribert says about it :

Do you know what I have been told ? That Zoé and Pierre-Loup were getting deductions because there was no change of rhythm in their programs. We had a competition here and I brought an international judge in the dressing room. I played their music, along with a metronome : “I’m going to show you your own incompetence”. Judges in ice dance are amazingly incompetent. And I can’t stand it. When I created Zoé and Pierre-Loup’s FD to Grand Corps Malade’ slam, I was sent for a meeting where I was told : impossible, you’re crazy, there is no rhythm, and so on… We were in touch with Grand Corps Malade on the Internet and we asked him to send a mail, explaining that his song indeed did had rhythm, otherwise singing would have been simply… impossible. Grand Corps Malade’s phrasing is systematically one beat behind his music. The music starts at 1, the phrasing starts at 2. I can tell you that with Zoé and Pierre-Loup, we have worked on that for months. Our intention was precisely to make the most of this musical lapse [she sings to demonstrate]. And at the first competition of the season, I’m told there is no rhythm ? When it comes to this point, I’m done, it doesn’t interest me anymore.

As it is copyrighted, I don't post more (and tried not to be too long here), but she talks a bit more on how she created the program & their COR outting a few questions later. Thanks to the interviewer !

:yay: Ahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed this program!!! It was tacky and dramatic and terrible in all the right ways. Ice dance has to have a few left field dances every season for it to really be ice dance; and this one did it proud! :) hahaha

>.> I didn't say any of the ones I listed were necessarily the only time anyone has ever used that music, just that it's unusual, which is what OP requested.

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned: Papadakis and Cizeron's FD to the music of Woodkid:

Woodkid has several of their own videos up on youtube. Arty to the nth degree, but I'm all for the arty!
Totally agree - but you linked their SD - here's their great FD you mentioned :)

... ooh... Just thought about Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexander Gazsi's "Zombie - Two From The Grave" 2013 FD: this season's programmes didn't have the same impact, but last year's FD was truly "special" ;)

Yuna Kim's James Bond.

That's not unusual, just about every top lady's been a Bond Girl at some point. (Oddly the music is not as popular with men?)

Max Aaron's "Tron: Legacy" program by Daft Punk was pretty unusual (especially since it was immediately followed at that Nationals by Bach Cello Suite...)

(Having stumbled across the movie the other night, I love the costume even more - exact replica of the main character's. So much so that when I heard the music and saw the suit I was immediately disappointed that the lead character was not, in fact, Max.)

(Brain deviation: TRON: FIGURE SKATING. Make it happen, Hollywood.)

I can't remember any other Bond girls in recent memory at senior level. I thought the Bond selection was a very refreshing change from all the classical music programs one usually sees, esp. at the Olympics.
