Yes, both teams were great but P/P skated the best and the scoring was right on. Here's the video. So much fun to watch this! Absolutely LOVED it!

Don't know if Rachel grew but she's definitely taller than the 5'3" listed in her bio. Lorraine is listed as almost 5'7" and is only an inch or two taller than Rachel. Both WISA teams are actually quite close in height but they manage it really well. So thrilled that the Parsons are leading! Hope they can skate their FD to it's full potential, it's a great program and I was sad after what happened at JGPF.

Thrilled too, but part of this comment bugs me a bit. Rachel stopped growing some time ago, and there is a full 4-inch difference between Michael and Rachel, the same height difference of many other top-level ice dance teams. Michael does skate very low in his knees -- a good thing I think -- and I guess that can make him look shorter. But their height is just fine, and I would even say just about perfect, as it give them a really great line on the ice. So let's talk about how they skate, yes??? I have the same issue with people who get too caught up in girls' weight. Just watch all these top-level teams battle it out and enjoy the show. Height is not an issue to me. This is not pairs.

Wow does anyone know what P/P and M/C's intentions are after this season? If both teams go senior next year US Ice Dancing is going to get very crowded and the fans are going to reap the rewards in a big way.

I agree with you. Also Michael's knee bend is

Who knows what will happen in their first season. Of course teams fresh out of juniors always have prospects and are expected to do well or else they'll get dropped or be considered second tier. I just hope they do well and they stay healthy. And don't become P/I.

You most likely mean Ksenia Rumiantseva, the older one. She hugged Alla right after she came off the ice, though, even if she did not talk to her. None of them talked much, really.

I just calculated that L/D probably lost around 6.5 points with that fall, assuming that their step sequence would have been level 3 and with high GOE - probably around 2 points or close to that. Perhaps they lost even 7 points, considering the very possible loss on PCS. So their score would have been around 65.5 to 66 points - actually very close to Mcnamara/Carpenter.

You stumbled on our secret, US teams have no talent and can only score well by judges and technical controllers cooking the scores..NOT! I am so sick of people throwing shade like this. If you really feel the sport is so crooked quit watching.

I happen to know Hal Marron (the US tech controller here) quite well. He sat with me during a few national and international SDs & FDs when he was not on the panel, explaining in detail all of the deductions each couple should get in their programs. He is a former ice dancer and pair skater and is also an international judge in singles, pairs as well as ice dance.

I hope they move up...
I hope so too. They really have some bad luck. Last season when they seemed like a stable Russian top 3, more like number 2 than 3, they did not even get to go to Worlds in the end. This season when they looked like a stable World top 3, this happens.

Both teams need to go Senior next season. M/C have been Juniors at Nationals for what seems like almost a decade and the Parsons are ready to go to next level too plus haven't they been on the JGP for 5 seasons now? There is no reason for either team to stick around for yet another season as juniors. There is nothing to gain at this point.

I agree. And they can potentially go above some of the so-so senior teams. Especially since in the FD for seniors I think there's one extra lift...or step sequence....please help me out...I'm not an expert.

Ice Dance SD, quick review

Short Dance Junior Worlds

Let me start by saying, that I am really positive about the judging today. The best dancers are currently up front and without sounding to sassy or disrespectful towards the other skaters, it was very visible - why, even for the non dance experts.
Both American pairs, were skating with great speed and presence, but the most impressive was definitely the skating in hold, especially by Lorraine and Quinn. The Americans were skating so close to each other, that their boots and knee´s almost touched and the dress of the lady made a connection with the pants of the man, so risky and difficult to perform, the partners need to execute their steps absolutely on time, else they would collide – resulting in a fall or interruption. Well done by both American pairs.

Rachel and Michael Parsons for sure had no interruptions today and made the term "effortless" skating justice, as they didn´t break a sweat with their Cinderella story and gained a well deserved 67.88 points, the highest score of the day. In a greatly themed short dance, two key aspect´s gave them a lead over the second Americans, Lorraine Mcnamara and Quinn Carpenter who gained 66.25 points.

The midline no touch by the Parsons, was phenomenal and with great confidence and the expression of "no problem", always heads up high, positive look into the crowd and at the judges was always there, while the hardest element, their twizzle sequence, was placed right at the end, again, going for that effortless skate exactly what the judges want to see.

As for Lorraine and Quinn, they are currently trailing by 1.63 points and while gaining an edge with their PC´s, the Base Value was a tad lower, as the no touch was only a level three in a not less impressive skate with deep edges and strong expression, that gave us a nice look into the world of trolls, something they were using as a strong choreographic element, throughout their performance to Peer Gynt.

Third came Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain le Gac with 59.65, who seemed a bit disappointed with 59.65 points, losing a few levels like on the not touch, which was performed as a diagonal step sequence and of course, at their second pattern dance element, which only gained a level one – most likely due missing the required key points as there was no interruption or fall visible to me.

Anastasia Shpilevaya and Grigory Smirnov achieved 59.15 and are absolutely in the money, of acquiring that bronze medal and as with all the Russian pairs, they showed great alignment and very good ice dancing, with a huge twizzle sequence, with the change of leg in between and the hand on the knee during the first, while skating in close distance to each other. You could argue if their PC´s could be a tad higher in Interpretation and choreography, but overall I stick to what I said before, the judging was ok with a tiny inflation at the Pc´s towards the end.

Last but not least, I really liked how Betina scaled a bit back on her expression this time, giving Yuri a better chance to also shine and I think that this was a very good idea, as he was much more present in the short, than usual and it was well reflected in the PC´s of an average 7.20 points. The Russians are currently on 7th position with 58.56 and I so hope, the judges will keep the distance in mind, if they judge the dancers, as the battle for bronze is really right and it would be very sad, if the starting number would decide about who will win said medal.

Thanks for the great performances today!

The problem with these two is that Drodz is not skating with his partner. She is almost struggling to keep up with him, so to they always look ragged. IMHO, the issue is primarily with their coaching.

When I first saw Rumiantseva, I thought she looked scary too. Kind of like Natasha Fatale. After watching her this season, I've decided that Rumi isn't as hard as she looks. She really seems to live and die with the fortunes of her teams. I've seen her comfort her skaters when they don't skate well or don't get the scores they hoped for.

BTW, Natasha Fatale was a character on the old Bullwinkle cartoons. Here's a pic for anyone who isn't familiar with the character. Don't tell me Rumiantseva doesn't look like Natasha.

They actually lost 5.54 points compared to their best result (the JGPF). Adding back in the 1.00 for the fall, that would have given them 65.47---close, but still behind. L/D would have had to play catch up in the FD anyway, and the best they've done there was 91.91 in an early JGP, below all the FDs McN/C have scored.

As for the PCS, c'mon. Three judges gave them mostly 8s! They are in 6th place and their PCS was only .5 less than the #1 Parsons.

I always thought alla was weaker than him as well. They're fd this season also is weak compared to Giselle from last year.

I did not mean to say that they would have a chance for silver if not for that fall. I meant to say just what I said - that they would have been close in the SD. And perhaps that the third place would have been theirs without a doubt.

Also, what does it matter what was their previous season's best? No, I don't mean to say that it does not matter at all, but it is not unusual for skaters to get their season's best at Worlds if they skate well. So I did not look at their previous best result, just added the points they lost at this particular time (level - 1.5 points, GOE - 2 + 2 or almost 2 points, deduction - 1 point) + perhaps 0.5 points in PCS.

As for PCS, you are right. I just looked at M/C's PCS, but not at P/P's PCS when thinking about that. Still, I find it hard to believe that L/D did not loose at least a fraction of a point on PCS with that fall. Probably not 0.5, but something even less.
