I watched some of group 2 and final one in city bus (seems like my second FS hotspot after sneaking at work:laugh:)

I really love Emmy and Aissa, this program, demeanour and her enthusiasm are such a breath of fresh air! Yes, there is a lot of gelling and work to be done, but they look very good together and already can create an interesting, compelling and cohesive performance. She reminds me so much of young Tessa Virtue with this exuberance...

I find Brown siblings simply delightful, I want to adopt them, hug them! Their performance character, abilities really exceed their age for me, she in particular has so nice control over her expression, emoting. They need some tech specialist to work on levels, BUT their overall movement quality, musicality, connection are already very, very good in my opinion.

While I appreciate technical prowess, speed, difficulty in top 2 FDs, I find both programs overwrought, too much of cluttered, fragmentarized in movement. Props for Ushakova/Nekrasov on doing something out of the box concept-wise and pretty original musically, however I cannot synthesise everything - concept, music, attitude, choreography, acting, elements - into coherent, fluid wholesome and this frenziness keeps me from appreciating their qualities more. I found today's performance quite unkept, she certainly rushes things and gives attitude every chance she gets - I am just not a fan of every piece screaming in my face that much and there is a lot of loud, bold things there...

Yes, I thought he was saying, "You want a change, I will give you a change." :taunt:

And yet it sort of worked, though I prefer the coherent beauty of his previous vision.

I miss the old version too, but I still enjoy the new version, I think they have the right feel already.

re the "lockstepping" of F/MP

Do not forget that these kids have been withdrawing from competition of all their summer events and then, when slotted in to compete in the early JGPs were moved down to the last two events.... In other words, they are not at the same level of refinement in choreography than they could be. I am sure that this will get fixed for Nationals. Honestly, if I do like hot messes, I prefer this kind of approach which focuses on the elements and levels first, as the base for which we can add choreography later on, than the opposite where a program was conceived and there was little thinking about how to really fit elements... then, something is too hard to get and has to be redone...

I feel like USFS needs to get a top-level ID coach to consult with Lavrik. The Browns are the future of American ID (in addition to Avonley and Vadim) and they could score so high if it weren't for the dratted level 1s. kind of heartbreaking to see them perform and skate so well just to get held down by things that are due to inexperience. clearly Andrew is doing good work for them but they need help in how to choreograph to get the higher levels :sad4:

OMG, they are kids. And there are a whole slew of exciting young U.S. dance teams coming through the pipeline. (The Browns were 5th in novices last year). Are they the future? Sure. Along with the Greens, Nguyen & Kolesnik, Gropman & Somerville, Tkachenko & Kiliakov, Lin & Sletten, the Peals, Wolfkostin & Zhao, Efimova & Zhao, probably Lavrova & Chen, etc. Igor has junior teams getting level 1's. Wheaton has junior teams getting level 1's. The lot of the junior teams have feedback from dance experts in USFSA. These teams have been out competing since June. The Browns are standing out for first-time viewers because they look different. Because they have a different coach & choreographer. And because they are both small and rather unusual in that many coaches would split them up right now and try to find a guy who could easily lift her and spin her around rather than looking at the unique package they present & trying the reverse. If they went to Igor, they'd start flinging their arms around--if they stayed together--and these same sudden fans might well lose interest in a heartbeat. Let's appreciate that their current coach/choreographer gave them a pair of quality programs to start off their JGP career. This is their debut season. They're learning.

By the way, I think the piece of music inserted into the Brown's program is from "La Grange" by ZZ Top … Certainly a tempo and mood change...

Lavrik was taking no chances

Much as I like the bearded ones, combining them with Gary Moore was just bizarre.

I admit, moving from "Still Got The Blues" to "Parisienne Walkways", and then back again was so smooth that any tempo change was barely noticeable (in fact, it was so smooth that I think it was actually a recording of Gary playing a medley of the songs). And whilst adding in ZZ Top definitely provided a tempo change, the pieces just didn't fit together at all.

Nevertheless, the skating was great. They are so young, and they are going to go far.

Looking forward to seeing how they develop over the years that come.

By the way, the Free Dance livestream has now been blocked by Merlin.
