I know nothing about African musicians/artists but there are a few pieces I like that I wish would make it to the ice, though it will likely never happen.. but, these would be VERY original skating routines..

M'Beddemi - Cheikh Lo.... nice rhythm..
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eqo7X8sSrQM

YeYeYe - Geoffrey Oryema.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G0u5yYEEluA

Yriyaro (Percussion Storm) - Baaba Maal. (Drums really kick in at :57 and never quit!)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CD-TMxVzaVc

Also.. from a different part of the world, the Faro Islands... Eivor...

Trollabundin (Spellbound)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NOsFQ-VUeMw

Vero Min
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4_FIwLoIHBY

And finally... Chanson Bretonne..

Karantez Vro - Nolwenn Leroy
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K_HzhDkSA54

speaking of Nolwenn Leroy someone could pick her Mna Na H-Eireann instead of the usual overused irish music, i can see someone like Kamila Valieva skating to it.

It would be wonderful to hear Senagalese music on the ice. I also adore Amharic music. I don't know much about it either, just that the music and dance styles are so innovative. I'd love programs to one of these that tried to convert Ethiopian dance to the ice.

So true... The point of this thread really is to speculate about broadening the scope of figure skating music beyond the standard fare we are used to seeing/hearing over and over. Most suggestions need adaptation to ice performance standards, of course, but there is SO much music out there that could ideally be used choreographicslly that is wonderful and unique. One skater recently asked fans for music suggestions for next year's programs and I began to search for something unique that would express the skater's individuality... so many pieces came to mind but, in the end, I thought none would be taken seriously. I remembered vividly the criticism one young skater endured because the EX program, innovative, was so different and disappointed fans.. takes an opening of mind and spirit, I guess, not only on the part of the skater but audience as well..

"This is Gospel" (Both the regular and piano version) by Panic at the Disco. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HylqSfp-1o / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crwE3Tw_k0Q

"Build G-D, Then We'll Talk" by Panic at the Disco (In the live performances, there was some intro music beforehand, so that could stretch out the length to at least 3:50). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GEM4sNAm5s

If my girl Noémie ever decides she wants to skate to some Kenyan music I would love her to look at Sauti Sol. Their a capella recording of 'Kuliko Jana' with the RedForth Chorus is amazing; so is 'Live and Die in Afrika'.

I'd also love to see more TV soundtracks being used. Bear McCreary's scores for Black Sails and Battlestar Galactica are legendary (definitely somebody skate to 'Gaeta's Lament' please, and the hurdy-gurdy theme to Black Sails!), but there are a lot of less well-known ones that are skateable. I'm currently in love with the soundtrack to The Expanse, especailly 'The Ocean', but there are also older and less fantastical options like Brides of Christ and new but quite classical-sounding options like Call the Midwife, and period pieces like Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. And those are just Commonwealth and US options; there's a whole world of options out there. Let's get people looking a bit beyond Game of Thrones in the TV music stakes!

For a competition definitely not (unless you are danny g choreographing to strange themes).

For exhibition maybe?

Haha yes Danny g might think it’s a good idea for a program, I was thinking more of an exhibition type programa

that would be a nice change from the overused POC, why be Jack Sparrow when you can be James Flint or Long John Silver?

Thoughts on anyone competing with this music and making it a program abt coronavirus awareness? I think it could be used in exhibition and it’s a little out of the box

Oh dear Lord NO. There was a German dance team who did a Very Special Cancer Awareness program a few seasons ago and it was beyond dreadful. And it smacks of those 9/11 Let's Exploit Someone's Tragedy Because We Are Trying To Push It Off As BOTH Arty and Compassionate. And frankly it's neither. It's just plain exploitation.

Many Chinese dramas have really amazing OST, I think that kind of music would fit Boyang better, and I wonder why Chinese skaters don't use them.

I think Boyang should use something more modern like the opening songs from Go Go Squid or The Mystic Nine:

I am still waiting for a male skater to use Nirvana in Fire theme song :sad46: as SP.

Peng/Jin skated to the Last Emperor soundtrack as EX (wich is not a drama, i know ), the only other skater i can recall using music from a chinese movie is Marin Honda, who is japanese though

Having suffered through the times when the Eurovision Song Contest went Seriously Meaningful and Socially Aware, I agree.

Chen Lu skated an absolutely exquisite FP to The Last Emporer. Alas, Michelle Kwan also skated an exquisite program to Salome and edged her for the gold, in one of the best 1-2 punches in World Champ History.
