seyitfan, you recommended Olene Kadar which I noticed has Fahriye in it. Did you watch it all ? And you still recommend it?! I like her but what about the male star?!

Merhaba LoveShura, Yes I do still recommend Olene Kadar which I watched on Omara.org I liked it so much I watched it twice. Although the first time it was a bit difficult as only episodes 1-9 were translated in their entirety, episodes 10-11 were translated but had huge translation gaps and episodes 12 and 13 were not translated at all. I was so involved in the story I even watched 12 and 13 in Turkish ha ha. The second time through I watched most of it on Amara.org as the translation quality was much better than youtube. However, youtube version is very good and at least I understood what was happening.

I thought Fahriye was excellent in Olene Kadar. In fact I did not think much of her acting skills in KS&S, (probably because I was a little in love with Seyit and Sura and saw her as an obstacle between them) but I was totally wrong there and her performance was excellent in Olene Kadar.

What did I think of the young male star? Well .......I think I'm in love. Ha ha. His name is Engin Akyurek and he is up there with Kivanc. In fact I seldom watch anything else now as UK and US dramas do not seem to pull me in like these Turkish Telenovas do.

Do, please give Olene Kadar a try. I'm sure you'll like it.

Oh, I have found a treasure trove.

Amazon Prime (in USA, anyway) has a premium channel called "Walter Presents" and it is entirely television series with subtitles from South America and Europe.

They look as though they are mostly crime dramas with a few other offerings thrown in.

I've just finished up "Thirteen" which is a Belgian series; the cops are hunting a killer. It was awesome.

I think Walter Presents may be an option on my Roku, too. The cost is something like $7 a month.

Walter (the guy) gives a one-minute description of many of the series, which can make it easier to decide where to start... of course, I want to see them ALL!

We just started Boarderlanders which is Norwegian. Also we started Godless (which is made in the US). Also I started The Method which is Russian. I have to go back to it. The first episode didn't grab me. The lead actress is incredibly beautiful.

Seyitfan, I went to omara.org and it just says that site is for sale . Is that something new or can I get around that?

I discovered a site similar to Netflix. It's called DramaFever and it specializes in Asian TV shows (mostly Korean). If you're a fan of Korean TV shows like I am, this site is a Godsend. It's only $4.99 a month.

It's a legit site owned by Warner Bros.

I had to take a break from Netflix because I feel like I've watched everything I wanted to. Since subscribing to DramaFever a few days ago, I've already watched 3 shows, all romances. If you're open to it, make sure you watch Oh My Venus, it's really very good.

LoveShura..I am not very techy, how i found omara.org was to input omara.org olene kadar 1 in Google search engine. I've just tried it now and it still works for me. I'm in the UK don't know if that makes a difference. If all else fails, I'm sure you'll find it on youtube. Good luck.

Forgive me LoveShura.......spelling i have given you is incorrect. It should read amara.org olene kadar 1 - NOT omara. You should find it now. (senior moment).

I canceled my Netflix subscription tonight but before I did, I spoke to a rep and told him that I'm canceling because they stopped adding Turkish shows. I asked him if they plan to add more in the future but he gave some generic answer, which was disappointing.

"It has to due with licensing...blah blah"

"You can check our social media for new additions...blah blah"

I asked him a specific question: can you tell me if you will be adding any new Turkish shows in the coming weeks and months?

His response: "I see. The contents you see will vary from one location to another since there are regional limitations on the licenses for the titles that we have. If you are in the United States, you will see the contents available in the United States. If you are in Hong Kong, you will see what we have available in that country, etc. You can always Click Here and request the titles that are not yet seen on Netflix where you are. You can also Click Here to check the new contents we have for the coming months on each country."

Jesus...

I'll most likely sub again when they restock that selection because I was just paying to watch shows I've already watched.

I found DramaFever which is great in the meantime. I'm also actively seeking a similar site for Turkish and Spanish shows so hopefully I'll find one.

Mehraba Smile, I feel you. We are thinking to do the same with Netflix. I called them too, and they gave me the same answer. I think it is related to the actual politics that it’s going on over there. They are not adding any Turkish movies or series in the foreseen future. And the irony of that is that Netflix pays them very good in comparison with other countries. Most of other countries in Europe especially in the region get their movies for free (promoting Turkish art and culture). I learned this by watching an interview of Netflix’s CEO on CNBC recently.

Can you please let us know here, if you find a site for Turkish movies? Thank you. 🙏

Don't give up on "Method." It's dark and broody, and takes a couple of episodes to really get into. It's definitely not a romance, which many seem to enjoy, but it's very good.

It has some scattered steamy parts, which leads me to believe that Russian standards for "revealing" television are not the same as USA.

Edit: To clarify - I'd say some scenes would be R-rated in USA, but it's not porn.

My best friend and I watched La Mante together and at the end we were both screaming "No, no.. don't go in there. Come to Canada instead. You are a national treasure!" hehehe.. We found the end really bad. Do you have The Frozen Dead? We liked that one and it's mostly set in the mountains outside of Toulouse in winter so we felt right at home.

Have you ever heard of Cardinal? It's Canadian.
Watch Zone Blanche (Black Spot) when its come if you can.
What about Bellevue? Is it interesting to watch?

I don't think Black Spot has come to Canadian netflix yet. I'll be on the look out. Thanks.

I'm assuming you mean Bellevue with Anna Paquin and made by the CBC? It was okay. About a 7ish. It started pretty slowly and we almost gave up on it but I like to finish things so we kept watching. Cardinal is better inmo.

I'm still anxiously waiting for season 4 of the Bridge.

So all you Lovebird fans.... I tried to go back on the KS&S thread and see where we talked about Lovebird . Goodness, so many pages of L&P! Haha. Did anyone ever write about the novel and the earlier version of this movie. I thought that was interesting. I would love to read the novel, someone wrote it was the Turkish Jane Eyre. And both the book and the earlier movie that stuck to the book version have them end up together . Did anyone read this all online. ??

I'd love to get an English version of the novel to read. From what I've read, the novel includes 3 sections. First section is the story of young Feride through the night of her wedding to Kamran (which is pretty much the entire Lovebird series), second section is her life in Anatolia as a teacher, and the third section is Feride returning home to her family after the teaching thing doesn't work out.

I wish we got all three section in the series but I guess the network canceled the show before they could do it.

Below I've included a synopsis of the novel that I found:

The events in the novel take place in the early twentieth century, near the collapse of a war weary Ottoman Empire and the creation of the Turkish republic. Most of the novel is recounted in first-person diary format by Feride. In the first section, Feride describes her childhood, beginning from the beginning and leading to the events that led her to a strange hotel room. The second and largest section consists of diary entries describing her adventures in Anatolia. The third section is the only one written from the third person point of view, describing Feride's visit to her home.

Feride is the orphaned daughter of an army officer. As a teenager, she attends Lycee Notre Dame de Sion in the winter, and stays with one of her late mother's sisters during the summer holidays. She is given the nickname "the Wren" during her time at school for her vivacity and mischief. These two characteristics considered unusual and even a bit inappropriate for Muslim girls at that time.

She gets engaged to her charming cousin, Kamran, whom she leaves the night before their wedding, upon discovering that he has been unfaithful to her. She runs away from home to become a teacher in Anatolia, although she remains desperately in love with Kamran. She is forced to move from town to town several times during her first three years as a teacher, as a result of the incompetence of officials, the malice of colleagues and the unwanted attention she gets from men because of her beauty and her lively manner.

Meanwhile, she adopts a little girl called Munise, finds out that Kamran has married the woman he had cheated on Feride with, and develops a friendship with Hayrullah Bey, an elderly military doctor who treats Feride with fatherly affection. At the end of these three years, Munise dies and Feride is forced to resign from her post and marry the doctor because of the rumors about her "indecent behavior".

A couple of years later, Feride returns to Tekirdag to visit one of her aunts and her cousin Mujgan, where Kamran, now widowed and with a small child, also happens to be. He has never gotten over Feride, painfully regrets having cheated on her, and confesses to have married the other woman only out of pity after he heard false rumors about Feride being in love with another man. The night before her arranged departure, Feride confesses to Mujgan that her marriage to the doctor has never been consummated and he has in fact died recently.

He told Feride to revive her ties to her family as his last wish, and gave her a package to be entrusted to Mujgan. Mujgan takes the package to Kamran, which turns out to be Feride's diary which was hidden and preserved by the doctor. Finding out that Feride is still in love with him, Kamran arranges to be wedded to Feride the next day without her knowledge. The novel ends with their long-awaited reunion, and Kamran's confession that he betrayed her all those years ago because of his insecurity about her love for and loyalty to him, due to her ostensible frivolity and harsh treatment of him.

Just an FYI, Netflix added Velvet Coleccion today. I might have to give it a chance, although I know Alberto and Ana are not in it. I think Ana makes a cameo in the first episode but that's it. The shows main stars are Clara and Mateo. I'm happy for them, they deserve their own show.

Hello- I watched it over the weekend. It’s okay but not as great as the original. I liked Clara & Mateo in the original but there isn’t much of them in this series either. No Alberto, and Ana only showed up in the first episode. It’s a cutesy show but lacks depth. I was happy not to see Cristina here so it was good for me.

Netflix has a great Australian show called Offspring which ran for 7 seasons, ending in 2017. There are about 13 episodes per season. And I have watched this 3 times. It is about a female obstetrician, her life and loves, also with a very close (intrusive) family. She is lovable, a trifle clunky, a great doctor, and voiceovers which reveal her thoughts. It is funny, sad at times, great storylines. Highly recommended.

Another great one on MHZ is called A French Village, also 7 seasons, about the effect of the German occupation in WW2. Great show and characters.

Ekşi Elmalar

They also added İstanbul Kırmızısı, a movie starring the guy from 1,001 Nights and the woman from Cesur ve Gusel.
