I wonder why in pairs Russia put among the substitutes two completely new pairs (Pepeleva/Pleshkov and Melnikova/Selkin) and they did not put there Atakhanova/Volodin who won the elder age nationals.

I am surprised that Russia posted among their substitutes two completely new pairs (Pepeleva/Pleshkov and Melnikova/Selkin) and yet they didn’t name as substitutes Atakhanova/Spiridonov, even though they won the Russian nationals of elder age.

Atakhanova-Volodin now, Atakhanova/Spiridonov and Ustimkina/Volodin split less than an year ago.
Why they are not in substitutes - I don't know.

Atakhanova-Volodin competed first time 28 Mar-03 Feb 2018, also very new pair.

Yes, of course I meant Atakhanova/Volodin. I know they are still quite a new pair, but still less new and more accomplished (winning the elder age nationals) than Pepeleva/Pleshkov and Melnikova/Selkin. And at those nationals they beat some of the pairs who are getting their spot/substitute spot.
