Hanca, this will be my final post. The figure skating season is way too long and way too repetitive. The only spontientity to it is who falls or not. Broadcasting makes the problem(and it is a real problem no matter how nobody seems to talk about it) worse.

Well Russia is the only country (that I know of) that streams their test skates, does anyone know if Russia has always broadcast test skates (even if its just seniors) and if they haven't has there been any decrease in viewership since they began broadcasting test skates. In Russia figure skating seems quite popular even the cup events last season that were domestic only, had good audience attendance.

Russia started broadcasting the junior test skates in the last few years. They didn’t used to do that, but a few video clips of the best skaters always got leaked to YouTube anyway.

Russia may be the only country that willingly broadcast their test skates, but the matter whether the test skates are or are not broadcasted is not making figure skating season any longer. One can argue that the skaters have to be in a good competitive shape if it is going to be broadcasted, but the skaters need to be in good competitive shape anyway if the event is used as a selection process forJGP, so what’s the argument against broadcasting it?

In fact there is a stream from the test skates in my country (or at least there was the last season).

As part of the preparatory camp preceding the test skates of the juniors of the Russian national team, two seminars for athletes and coaches were held at the Novogorsk Olympic training center.

The topic of the first seminar, which was held by the ISU ice dancing referee Lolita Labunskaya, was the rhythm dance features of the upcoming season. The participants of the seminar were shown the video materials of the ISU and were given explanations with specific examples.

The second workshop was devoted to anti-doping rules. Elizaveta Kapanadze, a specialist of the department of educational programs of RUSADA, once again spoke in detail about the anti-doping rules and answered questions.
