i agree. they [Gilles & Poirier] do not have good postures in my opinion. and they look the same to me every year, innovative concept but poor lines. their scores were fair

"...Do not have good postures"... compared to who?
  • Compared to the Shibs, sure, I'd agree.
  • But compared to the 2 RUS teams that finished just ahead of them, I must disagree!

Given the history of Russian excellence in Ice Dance, it is shocking the amount of time (including when just doing basic stroking) that both these RUS teams appear 'hunched' over and bent forward at the waistline. Both teams obviously have other redeeming qualities, but, their basic dance positions/posture are really quite terrible.

[I keep expecting one or both partners to catch a toe-pick and somersault on the ice].

In my opinion, obviously...

oh yes, we all know that judges love variety and punish repeated programs or repeated styles, I think in the last 4 years they have made that very clear :rolleye:

But...but...what do you mean?!

But three straight years of more or less the same program, seriously? I think that's asking way, way too much. I just don't see the judges being that patient with them this year.

LOL, last year people were saying how much Evolution WASN'T like Fix You. Yes, there are some repeated elements (like the dance spin), but I would say the only similarities between the three musical pieces is that they both have piano and violin in it. :p

They have the second highest FD score right now. I know that will change, but for where are at this point of the season, they're doing OK. '

What I saw today at the Rostelcom was the Shibs performing a difficult program with technical precision and artistic flair. But it's not a finished product nor do they want to put forth their best yet. It's an Evolution to Pardise and there's a little Fix You in between. :) Stay tuned!

Re Gilles/Poirier

It's not they lost to S/B but they lost by a big margin and they were barely ahead of Guignard/Fabbri.

FWIIW, the panel was

Technical Controller Ms. Linda LEAVER (USA)

Technical Specialist Mr. Denis SAMOKHIN (RUSSIA)

Assistant Technical Specialist Ms. Monica MACDONALD (AUSTRALIA)

Judges were

1 Belarus
2 Turkey
3 Russia
4 France
5 Canada
6 USA
7 Italy
8 Czech
9 Israel

Like all the ice dance teams other than V/M, P/C and Shibs, the rest are fighting for the last 3 spots at the GPFs. I don't think Piper was lamenting not getting first place here but more being so disregarded for third which would keep them in the running for GPFs. Alot can happen between now and December but a 4th place finish is fighting uphhill.

Surprised to see so much Shibs skepticism here. I've stopped loving them ever since they became US #1, because I'm a masochist who only sees the best in underdogs, but their FD really wowed me.

Well I am sorry to be negative but Shibs FD really bored me today :slink: Their SD was though very amusing.

Did you noticed how bad the sound was in Rostelecom?

Ugh!!! if there is something that I hate more than a bad camera work is a bad sound :disapp: :palmf:.

I think we could not appreciate enough well Shibs music.

Yeah ... there was something very grating with their music, maybe it also suppressed my impression.

This is why I never make too big an issue about ice dancers skating on the beat, even when it is blatantly obvious they are skating to the melody (ahem, almost every IDer in Montreal).

Oh, well, this year is the third year of more or less: the same Medvedeva’s programmes, the same Hanyu’s programmes
(as musch I lovehim, but that’s the truth) and above all, speaking of ice dance, the same third year of mush mush P/C programmes.
So please: either you are bored by all of them or don’t criticise none of them.

S/B's FD is, technically, more difficult (great difficult twizzles) than the Shibs' or B/S but presentation-wise _ the story telling, etc, the other two _the Shibs and B/S are much better. I can see why B/S lost by less than a point. Though their program is more eloquent (story-telling wise), the Shibs' skating are smoother _ edges - better. The placement in the podium is definitely right. S/B's short is boring, B/S's_ boring, too. The Shibs have a wonderful SD but somewhat pales in comparison to V/M's and P/C's. V/M definitely are better Latin dancers. The Shibs have better or more appropriate music.

Maybe if Canada stopped boosting their marks they would realize that what they got is the mark they deserve! That FD doesn’t do it for me and that’s black dress doesn’t do her justice
Sorry 😐

The exact same band, not even a similar mood, but Coldplay, three years straight. No matter how repetive P/C are they make it memorable or otherworldly. I have still to like the Shibs Part 2 of the Trilogy. They should just have gone back to Fix You. As for B/S they should have just brought back, AK. IMHO.

And people would have complained about how they were repeating programs. They can't win with certain fans. They look confident and secure with where they are st this point. See ya at SkAm.

It goes to show you, doesn’t it? I guess Arvo Paart, Phillip Glass, and Max Richter are members of Coldplay now. I think I’m just going to have to take a break from the forums until after the Olympics. I get many of the criticisms but I also think so many of them are over the top and not based on truth and have been prepared ahead of time. Anyway, if the Shibs listened to everything smart fans had to say they probably wouldn’t have had the success that they’ve had so far, and probably would have retired a long time ago. Won the competition, PCS near mid-9.0s across the board and continuing to score over 110 in the FD for an entire season plus 2016 Worlds, but it seems people are convinced they are going to be easily passed over by teams currently behind them.

What? Noo, just ignore them or you can stay in the fan fest, ignore button is a great option too.

. I wonder if Ms Gilles appreciates how many other skaters have been unhappy with the scores they have received. Her partner has wonderful skating skills but she is not in his league yet. Did she think they were going to beat the Shibs? Best not to be a sore loser in public

The last time I heard those words for a Canadian skater they were used for Gabby Daleman on the 4CC podium not smiling enough. She got her smiles in at Worlds instead.

Did you know Piper had to deal with a black out in her hotel room on the first day, and then later on bed bugs? She was bit badly on her legs. In the middle of the competition she had to change rooms.

Sometimes it's not just scores that upset an athlete. It's circumstances too.

Sorry 😐

Do you know how much they scored in Canada at Autumn Classic? Pretty much the exact same score... 172 and dust overall... Piper and Paul got about the same scores in both competitions so I am not sure why you say that they got their mark boosted previously.... if you meant at other events, you should know that ice dance has different elements every year and cannot really be compared for scores from year to year...

I can understand the frustration when someone can't even be bothered to look up the music a team uses (something listed oh about 92834793749343 times on the internet if you actually look for it) but is quick to slam a team for it. But informed fans who have something interesting (always) to say are fewer and father between than one would like. Your input would be greatly missed.
