I was able to watch a few youtube videos, and the comments sections are pretty bizarre...

On Dabin’s SP video, someone’s complaining about her mental state? They’re criticizing her about not getting herself together compared to Satoko Miyahara who was also injured. Thankfully, only this person is being like this, and there are a few other people responding to this post angrily and telling the OP to stop.

Then on Soyoun’s FS video, most people are saying that Soyoun’s score, especially PCS were way too low. That’s not much of a surprise to me since 1) Soyoun is almost always underscored and 2) Korea has always been strict with judging. But what I find interesting here is that many people are talking about how Hanul Kim should not have scored higher than Soyoun. Some even believe that Hanul is being pushed so she can surely go to the Olympics instead of Soyoun. I haven’t found a video of Hanul yet, so I can’t see for myself what they mean.

Can someone who was at the event tell me what’s going on?

yes, what you said is all true. Many are complaining about judging, esp So youn's pcs score and Hanul's tes. They think some of Hanul's jumps were seemed to be under or even downgraded, but judges overtook it. You may see the vids when they are up, to say your voice I think.:slink:

I was at the rink but i arrived later, so I couldn't see Hanul's skate. The thing about her is that she rotates really fast and personally for me it's hard to tell when her jumps are fully rotated and when not.
Soyoun had a good performance, but she is still far from her best shape. During the competition they only showed her total score so I still have to see what the judges actually scored her in the pcs department. I hoped for something more but I was just glad that she performed much better than in the last competition

I was wondering about that too. :( I was really hoping to see some of them (like Eunsoo) at the Gala, but obviously their health comes first!! We shall see, I guess...

She skipped gala.:sad21: Hope she gets well soon!! ant take a plenty of rest as she could.

Yay Young! She never disappoints. I look forward to the video!
But what a shock for Eunsoo and Dabin... I hope they’ll have good rest until Nationals.
Congrats Yelim for the fighting back, tho!

There’re Nationals left but at this point, I doubt that Jun will go to Olympics. It’s sad but he’s been plagued with injuries, so he did whatever he could. I won’t be bitter if June ends up going instead, this kid really fought for it.

Go to Eunsoo's instagram. She said she diagnosed as fraction at right big toe, 2 weeks ago. How she could jump with that?! OMG... it's hard to imagine, and I think she should have given up this competition. There are plenty of important competitions to left this season.:sad21:

I think South Korea Federation should consider changing their selection methods. Too many skaters are going through these competitions half-injured because they can't miss them. Maybe using only top 2 out of 3 results would make sense. So skaters can skip one event if they are injured.

Devastated for Junhwan.....The chances of him going to the Olympics has virtually vanished and to think that we were all sure he was going to do so well last year.:( You can never know with injuries, but now that it's pretty clear who is going, I hope the injured skaters really rest and let their injuries heal. I also hope they'll invite Junhwan for the Olympics gala at least. #PBJForOlympics

Also WOW at that score for YY! I definitely thought she looked better than she ever has in her practice videos, but wow! Gotta watch everything now.

Ok... NOW I saw the protocols and NOW I'm angry. Really KSU? Only 52 pcs for Soyoun? There's no way that Hanul should earn more pcs than Soyoun! Also Jihun To was underscored in the pcs department.

So-youn has an easy natural elegance, expressive, and she is charming to watch. And those things counts towards PCS. But she really doesn't deliver vs. a lot of the other PCS criteria.

I don't want to start listing stuff she could improve on, and bring negativity in this thread or derail it - I'll just say it's no surprise to me, that she doesn't get high PCS - especially after seeing her in person a couple of times. Her injury setbacks aren't helping either, of course.

Basically, I don't see her PCS as something you need to get angry about...

I gotta agree with you about not being surprised. I've seen So Youn twice in-person (2016 Worlds and 2016 Skate America), and she was lovely but one of the slowest skaters out there. Her skating skills were just not there. Hanul has a lot to improve on in the PCS department, but she's very fast, which I feel is one of the criteria that judges take into big consideration. Do I agree with Hanul getting higher PCS than So Youn? Not sure about that, but I can see why So Youn's score wasn't too high.

It's giving a preview for the Nationals, the girls know what they have to work on. While Dabin is on her way to be the first skater for Olympics, it's still a bit open for the 2nd spot. We'll see if Hanul is handling well at Nationals or not.
It was cute, at the trophy ceremony, Yelim noticed that she and Eusoon got the wrong trophies (switching 3rd and 2nd) and they quickly switched before they get the flowers.
Will we get fan videos for gala too? I hope so.

Honestly, I'm not bitter at Hanul's score, but at Soyoun's.
Last time that Hanul and Soyoun competed with each other was in july.
In that occasion, Hanul had a very good outing
She got an under rotation and an edge deduction on her flip, the rest was judged clean. Then she scored 50.88 in pcs.
Soyoun had a disastrous outing: three falls, one under rotation, several unclean landigs. The performace was lovely but she was slightly slower than her usual and the falls disrupted the performance: she scored 53.84.

Now in this competition, Hanul did well technically, but not as good as the previous competition : she had an ur on her single lutz and edge call on her flip and a fall on the 3S. She scored 53.81 in pcs. 3 points more than her last outing. I can understand the increased pcs, even though the fell. The program grew and she had also a couple of good international competitions.

What I don't understand is how Soyoun's pcs could decrease! This time she did so much better. She had only one fall and one under rotation. She was in better shape and, for her standards (which I know to be slow), she was slightly faster than last time. But she got 1 point less 1 pcs. Honestly, as Hanul's pcs increased, I expected also Soyoun's pcs to increase for this performance, seen that she did much better than last time.
And you cannot justify it with the fact that she didn't skate in the last group, because also Hanul skated earlier, even earlier than Soyoun.
